Celebrate & Learn Signwriting with Better Letters
Back at the London Design Festival for a fourth year in a row, Better Letters is bringing free screenings and two ticketed signwriting workshops to the Bankside Design District. Get inspired by the stories of three retired signwriters at our double bill screening, and then get your hands dirty with our beginner’s workshop in Borough Market.
Wednesday 19 September, 7:30pm at Jerwood Space, Union Street. FREE.
We’ll be showing three recent short biopics profiling retired signwriters and their lives in the trade. When Better Letters me Cliff Headford (RIP), When Better Letters met Stan Wilkinson and When Better Letters met Josef Samuel are all celebrations of these otherwise unrecognised gentlemen, allowing a contemporary understanding of where the craft has come from as it finds itself in resurgence today.
Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 September, 10am-5pm at Market Hall, Borough Market. Advanced booking required. Tickets are £200 for one day, £360 for two days.
Better Letters’ Mike Meyer will be helping beginners get their first taste of setting out and painting lettering with a brush in the middle of Borough Market. Participants can book for one or two days and will be given a crash course in a selection of alphabets.
