This two-day workshop with the globe-trotting Mike Meyer is a crash course in the essentials of sign painting, with fun, lettering and laughs throughout. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners, and those with previous experience, with Mike providing one-to-one input throughout. All of the material taught is documented on a simple alphabet sheet which participants get to keep after the workshop.
The first day of the workshop is focussed on setting out and painting Gothic (Block) letters. These are drawn first, before moving onto the brush to learn how to control the strokes required to paint straight lines, curves and corners. For those progressing more quickly, there is an opportunity to work on a simple Thick ‘n’ Thin alphabet which differs from the Gothic by having contrast between stroke widths.
The second day moves onto two basic ‘one-stroke’ alphabets: Casual and Script. These are looser than the Gothic, but no easier. You’ll have plenty of brush time to practise all the strokes, and to work towards consistency in your letters. Mike will be on hand to guide you with personal tips to help you improve.
The workshop will be taught using (water-based) acrylic paints. Mike will be teaching in English and this won’t be interpreted on a formal basis, but there will be dual Engliah-Spanish speakers present to assist with interpretation where necessary.
The workshop fee is USD 395 which includes all materials, lunch and refreshments. Payment is either by debit/credit card using the book now button on this page, or with cash by contacting Gustavo Ferrari. All bookings are subject to our usual terms.
Thank you to Ferrari Fileteados for hosting this workshop.
