Wine & Type Tasting Evening
19-20 Sep 2018
Laithwaite's Arch, London
A Type Tasting created for the London Design Festival that tells the history of type in a new and unique way.
Hosted by Sarah Hyndman and Grant Hedley, Wednesday 19th & Thursday 20th September, 7.00pm to 9.30pm
£40, over 18s only, advance booking essential.
What do the fonts you encounter every day reveal about attitudes, the zeitgeist, cultural change, history repeating, faked news and the modern world?
Join author Sarah Hyndman and wine expert Grant Hedley for a multisensory time-travelling adventure with a selection of superb wines, each chosen to give you a taste of a significant moment in culture and communication. Journey from moveable type on a hacked wine press, to an experiential glimpse into the future.
Take part in a series of games and activities—including sound, taste and smell—with five delicious wines. Type history is brought to life as you find out how typefaces not only changed the world but that their power still resonates. For example, parallels can be seen in the social change and revolutions triggered when print first proliferated, and in the debate about the influence of social media today.
Join us at Laitwaite’s in the atmospheric Victorian railway arches next to Borough Market for an entertaining and multi-sensory journey through time, wine and type with activities and games designed to delight and inform.
In this unique type and wine tasting we will tell the incredible account of the modern world. This is the story of a hacked wine press, the original disruptors, entrepreneurial perseverance, explorers, inventors, revolutions, nostalgia, authenticity, and our vision for the future of type and wine based on trend predictions.
Sarah Hyndman is the author of ‘Why Fonts Matter’ and founder of experiential type studio Type Tasting. She was a recent guest on BBC Radio 4’s Word of Mouth, has given a TEDx talk and publishes collaborative research with Professor Charles Spence from the University of Oxford.
