Masters of Invention – Adventures in Graffiti art and Writing culture, presents visitors to the Lettering Arts Centre with a unique opportunity to explore writing culture within the history of creative mark making, contemporary art and graphic design. The show will feature paintings, photography, previously unseen sketches and theoretical texts from the culture’s pioneers as well as leading artists from today’s art scene.
Highlighting the contributions of those who have taken the art form into new and interesting spaces, Masters of Invention is a unique visual history of a letterform that has evolved from humble beginnings, into a highly complex and sophisticated form of design practice.
Curated by Errol Donald, Lettering Artist, Educator, Full member of Letter Exchange
To accompany the Masters of Invention exhibition, we are delighted to be screening the film Wall Writers: Graffiti in its Innocence at the Britten Pears Auditorium adjacent to the Trask Cafe, Snape Maltings on Saturday, 8 April.
Wall Writers offers a once-in-a-lifetime look at the origin of graffiti and street art, which continues to capture the imaginations of young people the world over. Most of the artists have given their first ever on-camera interviews for this project. Wall Writers has previously been screened in London and New York.
Screening will begin at 6pm. Please join us after the film for a glass of wine in the Trask Café, where you will be able to meet Errol Donald, the curator of Masters of Invention at the Lettering Arts Centre. Tickets are £10 each and are available by emailing Natasha or by telephoning 01728 688 393.
