The Art Workers’ Guild
‘On the wall’ because Susie loves writing and painting on walls. ‘Off the wall’ for three reasons: most of Susie’s large wall works have been painted over and are therefore no longer ‘on the wall’; Susie does make work that is not on walls; and finally, Susie is sometimes considered a bit ‘off the wall’ with her involvement in whacky projects and with her obscure interest in matters Chinese that most people don’t really understand.
The freedom to write and paint expansively came out of Susie’s five years as a scribe on Donald Jackson’s St John’s Bible, in many ways her formal training. This followed an editorial career in which Susie specialised in books on Chinese art and archaeology. Susie lives and works in Edinburgh and is at home both physically and spiritually in the mountains.
