This four-day workshop is split over two parts, first getting the basics under control in the Hand Lettering Workshop, before building on these in the Lettering Effects Workshop.
The Mike Meyer Hand Lettering Workshop is the first two days of paint, brushes, lettering and laughs. You will hone your Gothic (Block), Casual and Script letter forms through a hands-on process of practice, personal critique and expert guidance from Sign Painters‘ very own Mike Meyer. It all starts with a pencil, drawing and developing an understanding of the basic letter forms. These then form the basis for building your brush skills. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those wanting to improve and refine their existing skills.
With the basics under control, the next two days are given to Lettering Effects Workshop where you’ll learn a range of techniques to add a little something extra to your painted letter forms. Mike will guide you through a variety of lettering effects, including: basic shadows; outlines; bevels; convex and concave lettering; trick lettering; masking lettering; cut and roll fades. The aim is to accelerate your ability to create more distinctive lettering for all sorts of purposes. As those that have attended Mike’s hand-lettering workshop will know, this is all be done with a healthy dose of fun on the side.
All equipment is included, although be prepared for paint to get on you and your clothes. Mike is hosting the workshop in his hometown of Mazeppa, Minnesota, and will be providing accommodation and meals for all participants. This event coincides with the annual Mazeppa Daze festival so expect the unexpected with a parade, fireworks and more in this otherwise sleepy town…
