Everyone Back to Joby’s: An Abnormal Letterheads Meet

When Better Letters Met…Cliff Headford

These two short films offer a rare glimpse into distinct eras of the signwriting craft, with directors, producers and stars in attendance to introduce the films and participate in a Q+A afterwards.

Everyone Back to Joby’s lifts the lid on a ‘Letterheads’ meet – periodic events hosted by signwriters around the world to nurture the craft and pass on skills to the next generation. The meets are ‘organised’ in an anarchic fashion, and Joby Carter raised his hand and held an ‘abnormal’ one at Carter’s Steam Fair yard in November 2016.

When Better Letters Met... is the story of the late Bristol signwriter, Cliff Headford, told in his own words. Having learned that Cliff was responsible for one of Bristol’s surviving ‘ghost’ signs (fading painted wall advertisements), Better Letters set off West to meet him and capture his life and times in the signwriting game.

Thanks to Art House Crouch End, A.S. Handover, and Carter’s Steam Fair for their support of this screening.
